Valentines day is the day of romance and love, the reason why we celebrate is because in Roman the men would hit the women with the whip but they would sacrifice a dog or a goat for love. The women's would get in line for their man to whip them with the blood of the animal. This would happen through February 13 to 15 they made valentines day on the 14th because it was the middle of those days that the women would get whipped.
